The Ball Mill Will Be Replaced by the Vertical Mill

 The ball mill is one of the main grinding equipment for the cement industry. According to incomplete statistics, there are 44000 ball mills running in the global cement industry and domestic ball mills have accounted for 2.4 million. In the cement production process, the power consumption for grinding is up to 65% to 75%. Some experts said that if the total amount of China's cement industry during the five-year plan period no longer expands and the cement industry achieves carbon emission reductions, the Government must increase energy conservation efforts and improve resource and energy use efficiency, gradually eliminate new dry process cement production line which cannot meet the standard and the industrial policy. Promoting advanced energy conservation technology and comprehensively improving the energy efficiency level of the cement industry production is imminent.

As the new grinding equipment for producing cement, compared with conventional grinding process, the vertical mill has the advantages of low energy consumption, high grinding efficiency, strong drying ability, simple system process and large-scale producing performance. The vertical mill has become core equipment of the grinding system in cement industry. The working principle of the vertical mill is to make the raw material go through the screw conveyor and fall on the central disc. With the rotation of the disc, the material moves from the center to the edge. At the same time, the material is crushed by the extrusion of the grinding roller. The crushed material is raised by hot air at the disc edge from the air ring. The coarse particles fall back to the disc and the smaller particles are taken to the classifier for separation. The qualified powder is taken into the bag filter collection as finished product, which effectively avoids the phenomenon of over-grinding. 

Although it is a general trend that the vertical mill replaces ball mill, promoting the new machine will take some time. In fact, the cement industry has a long way to go to have a deep understanding of the mill technology. The system with the same specifications and the same grinding process makes some companies have low power consumption and high production, while some companies have high power consumption and low production. The technological innovation is definitely not the only grinding energy-saving channel. In order to achieve the grinding energy conservation, the enterprises should also improve the management and operational level, pay much attention to and reflect the enterprise's initial design concept, and strictly control the energy efficiency requirements in the purchase of equipment.
